BlueRock Diamonds announced the appointment of Johan Milho as the new mine manager at its Kareevlei Mine on Wednesday, as part of the implementation of the strategic review announced on 1 March.

The AIM-traded firm said Milho has operated in the diamond industry for more than 35 years, and joins BlueRock from Petra Diamonds.

He has previously worked at BHP Billiton and De Beers, and has extensive experience “very relevant” to BlueRock’s operation in the Northern Cape, the company’s board said.

The previous mine manager and the company’s BEE partner, Willie van Wyk, has become the director of operations for Kareevlei Mining - BlueRock’s sole operating subsidiary - where he will continue to provide support to the operating team.

“I am delighted that Johan has agreed to join our management team,” said BlueRock CEO Adam Waugh.

“His experience will be invaluable as BlueRock's operations move into the next stage of development.

“Willie's efforts and hard work taking our mine from trial mining to full production has been invaluable and we thank him for his dedication and we look forward to working with him in his new role,” Waugh added.
