Base Resources has been granted prospecting license PL/2015/0042 in the Vanga area in Kenya, it announced on Thursday.

The AIM-traded firm said the Vanga prospecting license was valid for three years, and covered an area of 136 square kilometres, extending south west from its existing Kwale operation towards the Tanzanian border.

It explained that the Vanga license was applied for following an airborne geophysical and radiometric survey, which identified a series of promising exploration targets.

“In the context of the current pursuit of mine life extension at Kwale … the granting of the Vanga prospecting license is a positive and important step,” said Base Resources managing director Tim Carstens.

“Preparatory activities, ahead of a planned drilling program in 2019, are underway.”
