Fishing tackle and equipment retailer Angling Direct said on Wednesday that interim finance director Ian Hunter will leave the company at the end of January 2020.

Hunter will step down from the Angling Direct board to develop his own consultancy business but will still support the group on future projects when required.

Angling Direct has appointed Steven Crowe as its chief financial officer with effect from 2 January.

Crowe will join the AIM-listed firm from Marvel NewCo and Validus, where he was finance director. Hunter will remain with the company to assist with the handover process.

Chief executive Darren Bailey said: "We are delighted to welcome Steve as chief financial officer of Angling Direct at an exciting time in the group's development.

"Steve brings a wealth of financial experience gained in the e-commerce and insurance sectors, particularly in the planning and management of M&A and international growth."

As of 1030 BST, Angling Direct shares were up 0.77% to 58.95p.
