COSTAIN APPOINTED SMART MOTORWAYS PROGRAMME ALLIANCE PARTNER BY HIGHWAYS ENGLAND

Costain, the smart infrastructure solutions company, has been appointed one of six partners in the £4.5 billion Smart Motorway Programme Alliance ("SMP Alliance"), a newly created alliance which will deliver critical capacity and safety improvements across England's strategic road network. The 10-year framework will see the SMP Alliance safely deliver a key element of the Government's second Road Investment Strategy, with a greater emphasis on technology and increased efficiency.

Costain will apply its leading-edge technology, production and installation techniques to deliver faster, safer and cost-effective enhancements across the road network. This includes applying the most innovative digital design techniques as well as minimising disruption for road users through the application of Design for Manufacture and Assembly techniques ("DfMA") enabling a greater proportion of work to be undertaken off-site.

Alex Vaughan, CEO of Costain, commented, "We are delighted to have been selected as one of the partners to the SMP Alliance. This strategic programme will deliver the much-needed capacity and safety improvements across the strategic road network in England. This programme approach seeks a step change in delivery performance, and Costain has been a long-term partner for Highways England delivering a broad mix of services from consultancy and digital technology solutions through to programme management and complex project delivery, demonstrating Costain's strong breadth of capabilities that add value in shaping and delivering England's future transport infrastructure."

Costain has a long-standing partnership with Highways England, supporting a range of initiatives aimed at improving safety and congestion as well as future shaping England's road networks. In addition to complex construction programmes, Costain has provided specialist technology products and services such as high-performance CCTV and incident detection, to leading innovation and consultancy projects such as connected digital roads and specialist analytics platforms.
