FTSE 250 movers: Bid talk builds up Barratt |

LONDON (SHARECAST) - Shares in Barratt climbed amid talk of a bid possibly from rival housebuilder Persimmon.
Shares in derivatives broker Tullett Prebon leapt ahead as it confirmed it has been approached over a possible offer for the company.
Waste group Shanks is higher after falling yesterday following its abandonment of talks with private equity group Carlyle about a possible offer. The price fall prompted Goldman Sachs to raise its rating on Shanks to ‘buy’ from ‘neutral.’.
Strong results from Melrose help the engineering conglomerate motor ahead. It said the acquisition of FKI is working out better than expected for thee, helping it lift headline profits rise by almost two-thirds in 2009.
Car dealer Inchcape is lower after said 2009 profit fell less than expected but on a cautionary note warned market conditions in 2010 are expected to remain challenging. The shares had climbed yesterday though.
Laird is the heaviest faller. The electrical component maker cut its dividend after reporting a 56% slump in full-year profits. Underlying pre-tax profits from continuing operations fell to £26.5m in the year ended 31 December from £60.6m last time.
