LONDON (SHARECAST) - Latin American oil and gas group Geopark has made a gas discovery in a new reservoir in its recently drilled Monte Aymond 34 well in Chile.
The company drilled and completed the well, situated in its 100% owned Fell Block, to a total depth of 2,367 metres, and registered positive indications of hydrocarbons in the Springhill formation during drilling and from logs.
It also encountered an ‘attractive sandstone reservoir’ with hydrocarbon shows at a depth of around 716 metres in the El Salto formation of the Tertiary section. A production test in a 12.5 metre perforated interval produced gas which flowed at a rate of around 6.1 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd).
‘The discovery of commercial hydrocarbons in the shallow Tertiary Salto formation on the Fell Block adds a new important growth dimension to our Fell Block project in Chile,’ claimed Geopark chief executive officer James Park.
Geopark has now scored eight out of eight in its 2009 drilling programme. It plans to drill two more wells on the Fell Block this year, with drilling soon set to start on the Dicky 16 well, while testing operations on the Alakaluf 5 well are imminent.
