LONDON (SHARECAST) - UK consumer confidence fell for the first time in nearly a year in November, figures from market research firm Gfk NOP show.
Consumer confidence declined to -17 from -13 in October, which contrasts with the continuing recovery in sentiment on the continent.
The figures suggest that UK confidence is being impacted by the continued recession, unlike in countries such as Germany, which have returned to growth.
News of the decline in consumer confidence comes as the CBI reported an unexpected fall in service sector sales in the past three months.
In business and professional services, which includes accountancy, law and marketing 21% of firms reported a higher profit, while 48% reported a fall.
In consumer services, including hotels, bars and travel firms, 21% said profits rose and 48% reported a fall.
