Thu 26 Feb 2009

LONDON (SHARECAST) - Drinks giant Diageo has secured distribution rights for Windhoek beers, a range of beers popular in Africa.

Diageo has secured from Namibia Breweries the right to brew and distribute Windhoek throughout the world, with the exception of certain African markets.

The licensing deal runs for an initial term of 10 years.

Nambia Breweries Limited (NBL) will continue to produce and distribute Windhoek in Namibia. Diageo has a 14% stake in NBL.

In the rest of southern Africa, Diageo and NBL will combine their distribution networks.

Windhoek brands are currently distributed in South Africa through a joint venture between Diageo and Heineken.

“This transaction deepens our commitment to total beverage alcohol and, along with a great partner in NBL, provides us with a strong addition to our range of premium brands in Africa and elsewhere.,” said Nick Blazquez, managing director of Diageo Africa.
