LONDON (SHARECAST) - Department stores group Debenhams is to hold its second three-day "bonanza" sale as the battle for consumers' cash intensifies among the high street giants.
Prices will be cut by up to 20% across its range of products for three days from 3-5 December, the group said. Debenhams has held one three day sale already, in November, which it eventually extended to five days due to the demand. It claimed that sale boosted customer numbers by two-thirds.
And the success of that sale has prompted it to do it again the store said. We're back by popular demand - it's as simple as that," Michael Sharp, deputy chief executive told reporters.
Marks & Spencer responded to the first Debenhams sale by launching its own 20% day on 20 November, which was only the second time in its history that it had cut prices before Christmas. But it is also said now to be mulling another 20% day, probably around 4 December, to match the move by Debenhams.
