Sector movers: RSA leads insurer bounce

Thu 25 Sep 2008

LONDON (SHARECAST) - RSA Insurance is leading insurers higher after French insurer Axa’s chief executive Henri de Castries told the radio station Europe 1 that the current crisis may offer his company opportunities to strengthen its market position. Aviva, the company behind Norwich Union, is also a strong gainer.

Earlier this month, traders were speculating that German insurer Allianz was interested in bidding for RSA.

Oil services aren’t helped by the lower oil price. Crude oil fell amid concerns of easing US demand, to sit around $105 a barrel. Amec, John Wood Group and Petrofac are among the sector’s fallers.
