US midafternoon: Fed keeps policy settings unchanged

US stocks are trading more-or-less flat after a punishing session on Tuesday, when the Dow Jones fell 243 points, its biggest one-day loss since June, and following the Federal Reserve’s decision, tonight, to maintain its main policy settings unchanged.
The bounce was helped by better-than-expected earnings from Boeing and Facebook.
Upbeat economic data out from China overnight also served to boost stocks higher.
However, comments from German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble, saying that Greece does not yet have a deal with the Troika over a two-year extension on bailout targets impacted momentum. The aforementioned particularly as comments backing this view were made by European Central Bank (ECB) President Mario Draghi, who said the Troika’s review of the Greek economy was not yet complete.
The 'Sage of Omaha', Warren Buffet, today acknowledged that there is “some slowing down going on” in the global economy, but warned investors against selling on short-term concerns.
New home sales rose at a 5.7% month-on-month clip in September, reaching a 389,000 unit pace (Consensus: 385,000).
Front month West Texas crude futures are down by 1.10% to the 85.73 dollar level on the NYMEX.
10 year US Treasuries re now falling by 4/32 dollars, with yields at 1.77%.
